What Mentorship Is (and Isn’t)

Mentorship is…

  • Structured support inside a school-aligned Work-Based Learning program
  • Career exposure and guidance from local professionals
  • Workshops, Q&A sessions, project reviews, and coaching
  • Helping students connect effort to outcomes (portfolio, resume, confidence)

Mentorship is not…

  • Unstructured volunteering with unclear expectations
  • “Free labor” or job duties for students (this is educational)
  • Weekly babysitting or last-minute scheduling chaos
  • A big time burden — we coordinate everything

Why This Matters in Fredericksburg, Stafford & Spotsylvania

When students build real skills and connect with real professionals, the entire region wins — stronger career pathways, a stronger workforce pipeline, and a healthier small-business ecosystem across the Greater Fredericksburg area.
